On the evening of August 29, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing made a phone conversation with US State Secretary Colin Powell upon request. Both sides exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. Li Zhaoxing reiterated China's stance on China-US relations and other significant issues. Powell reaffirmed that the US adheres to the one-China policy. The two officials also extended congratulations to each other on the good results the athletes of the two countries achieved in the Athens Olympic Games.
