(27 September 2016)
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am delighted to have all of you with us to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Embassy, I would like to extend my warm welcome to all the guests present here today.
The past 67 years have witnessed China's extraordinary development. China has not only found a development path fit for its own national conditions, but also achieved a rapid economic and social progress. China has now become the world's second largest economy, the biggest trading nation and the second largest source of outbound investment. Its per capita GDP has almost reached 8000 US dollars. More than 700 million people have been lifted out of poverty. The living standards of more than 1.3 billion people have improved significantly. China has managed to complete, in just several decades, the journey of development which took other countries several centuries.
In recent years, the Chinese economy has been growing on a large base figure amidst global complexities as well as long accumulated underlying domestic issues. China has relied on reform and innovation to maintain a medium-high growth rate and accelerated economic transformation and upgrading. In the first half of this year, the growth rate was 6.7%, which was among the fastest in major economies. China's economic aggregate has exceeded 10 trillion US dollars. China's contribution to global economic growth has been around 25%.
Looking ahead, the Chinese economy enjoys bright prospects given its big potential, ample advantages and vast space of development. China will continue to give priority to development, pursue innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and strive to maintain medium-high speed of growth and move to medium-high level of development. China will not waver in deepening reform across the board to boost market vitality and social creativity. With a firm commitment to the win-win strategy of opening-up, China will open its door even wider to the outside world. China is a dedicated follower of the path of peaceful development. China regards all countries as equals whatever their size, strength or wealth, respects the right of all peoples to independently choose their path of development. On the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, China will continue to pursue friendship and cooperation with all countries.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This October also marks the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Norway. Due to reasons known to all, a serious political obstacle is still standing between China and Norway. But I strongly believe that as long as our two sides could earnestly respect each other's core interests and major concerns, our relationship will be put back on track sooner or later. There is great potential for our cooperation in all areas and our relationship will have a bright future.
In conclusion, may I invite all of you to join me in a toast,
To the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China,
To the beautiful future of Sino-Norwegian relations,
To the health of all!
