Complete Victory" in the Fight against Extreme Poverty

On February 25th, China held a national commendation conference in Beijing to mark the country's accomplishments in extreme poverty eradication. Chinese President Xi Jinping awarded role models for their contributions to poverty alleviation, and announced that China has completely eradicate extreme poverty based on the current poverty standard.

Since 1978, China has helped 770 million people out of poverty. Right before the end of 2020, the final 98.99 million impoverished rural residents living under the current poverty line were lifted out of poverty. All the 832 impoverished counties and 128,000 impoverished villages have been removed from the poverty list.

China's accomplishments to eradicate extreme poverty not only belong to its people, but also contribute to the global cause of poverty reduction. According to the World Bank's international poverty line, the number of Chinese people lifted out of poverty over the past 40 years accounts for more than 70 percent of the global total. China managed to achieve the goal of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ahead of schedule for 10 years.
