Recently, certain Norwegian parliamentarian visited China’s Taiwan region, seriously violating the one-China principle and undermining the momentum of China-Norway relations, for which China expresses its strong concerns and firm opposition.

There is only one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. The Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is a recognized basic norm of international relations and universal consensus of the international community. It is also the political basis of China-Norway relations. China firmly opposes any form of official interactions between the Taiwan region and countries having diplomatic ties with China.

For some time, the DPP authorities in Taiwan have resorted to every conceivable means to lure foreign politicians to Taiwan, in an attempt to create the illusion that they are backed by the international community. However, their attempts of soliciting foreign support for “Taiwan independence” will never get its way. We also urge relevant personnel to abide by the one-China principle, stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatists, and make more efforts to serve the interest of Norway, promote China-Norway relations, instead of the other way around.
