On December 19, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Borge Brende of Norway in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that in recent years, China-Norway relations have seen heavy setbacks. Norway has reflected profoundly on the reasons that damaged mutual trust, and held earnest and serious consultations with China on improving bilateral relations. Both sides have reached important consensus on drawing lessons and resuming mutual trust, which completely conforms to the core interests of Norway and its people, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as well as the right development direction of China-Norway relations. China is willing to take Foreign Minister Borge Brende's visit to China as an opportunity to realize the normalization of bilateral relations and promote bilateral relations to maintain sound and stable development in the future.

Borge Brende said that Norway will fully respect China's development path and social system, oppose any actions jeopardizing China's core interests and major concerns as well as firmly uphold the one-China policy. Norway is willing to turn a new page of the development of Norway-China relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

After the meeting, both sides issued the Statement of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on Normalization of Bilateral Relations.
